Joining the fire brigade takes determination and dedication. This profession provides a great opportunity for candidates to become members of a body of professionals. To begin the process, you must first file an online application through the website of NSWFB. Whenever the brigade is recruiting, you will see them advertising on their site. To apply, you must ensure that you have at least a provisional driver’s license and your driving record is clean. Your confirmation of your willingness to be stationed anywhere in the country will also be required. The online assessment includes an internet-based test regarding your learning skills. This test takes approximately 25 minutes, but according to NSWFB, no preparation is necessary; you simply answer what you know based on your own knowledge.

The next step is to assess your core strengths and abilities to perform the task without any supervision. This evaluation lasts between 45 minutes to one hour. The online test assesses your communication and personal skills as well as ability to cope under stressful situations.

The last of the three testing levels consists of an evaluation which is performed with supervision. This test lasts an hour and is much more comprehensive and detailed than the previous two. Once you have completed all three online assessments, PAT or physical Aptitude Testing will be undertaken.
