Podcast: How to Ace the Firefighter Supervised Aptitude Tests

Today, I’m going to talk to you about cognitive testing or aptitude testing and in particular the supervised component of that testing. Some services require you to do an online pretesting to get into the next pool where you’ll will go into a supervised test. The reason this video has come about is because I kept receiving emails from people saying, I can’t get through the pretesting or I can’t, but generally, they can’t get through the supervised testing in that case.
The thing with the supervised testing is obviously, it’s a lot more competitive because you’ve gone from the big pool where they’ve got to bench mark and you’re into the next pool where the percentage pass rate is lower. So what I want to do today is cover off how to get through the first step and then through the supervised testing so that you can then go on and progress through to the next lot of testing and ultimately become a fireman or firefighter.
Basically, it’s nothing new but the fact is, you need to have the relevant questions, a mechanism to point out your deficiencies before it’s too late, so before you get onto the test and then find out that you’re not successful because your score wasn’t competitive enough. And have a mechanism to improve your score wherever it’s deficient. What we use to do this is a website that I’ve been creating over the past couple of years is called aptitudesuccess.com where we get relevant questions from a number of the different providers that are used with the different fire services around Australia.
At the moment, we’ve got the QFES conducting supervised testing from today and through till the end of the month. They use a combination of Wonderlick and Pearson which is a talent screener, and that’s this year. This training is every year so it’s really hard to keep up but then actually you’ve got relevant questions. And that’s where we come in. I’ll look at who’s providing the question so that we can provide you with proper practice questions. We also then make tutorial videos so that you can fix up any deficiencies you’ve got and then we have coaches on hand so that you can get further out to improve and become more competitive and also look at test time and strategy, so that you can be competitive and get in front of the group and progress through the next stage.
The other things about it as far as how a picture works and why it’s more competitive is, so we’ve got 1,000 applicants come in to the pretest for QFES at the moment. So half of them might get through to the supervised component of the testing. So that’s 1,000 to 500. So 50% chance of getting through, not that high in most cases. But the next case is probably more but they’re going to go from 500 to 100 or something like that. So you’ve gone from 1,000 so a 50% chance, down to 100, so one in five will move through to the next level and get to progress through and even get a go at the next testing phase that you’ll be faced with.
So, what I’m saying is, we’ve got a solution if you need it at aptitudesuccess.com. It’s not my decision to make, it’s up to you, but I would feel bad is you weren’t aware that it was there. So if you need some help to get through supervised, like you haven’t been successful before or you’re about to take it, go and have a look at aptitudesuccess.com where we’ve got the relevant questions that help to get you to the next level and coaches available if you need to strategize or just really get that competitive edge.
So, I just wanted to make sure you had the opportunity and knew that this resource was out there. It’s proven very successful for other applicants in the previous couple of years. So, if you really want to make a change and get through this time or the next time that you apply, have a think about, is the same strategy that you’ve been using going to propel you through the next level or do you need to make a decision and then try something different to get through the next level. I hope you’ve got something out of this.
