Podcast: Applying To Get A Job with the Fire Service
On today’s episode, I’m going through the process of how to apply for a job with the Fire Service in Australia and in particular, your strategy in doing that.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been receiving emails from different people asking me to help them with the aptitude tests and interviews and applications and resumes and stuff like that. I found the comments read when I write back to them and say, sort of, how long have you got to prepare this for?
A lot of the time, I’ve been here like two weeks or a week or my test is next, you know, the sixth of next month or something like this. Basically, it’s just not enough time to get yourself prepared and make sure that you’re going to be able to smash each stage or that stage of the process.
The process I use with my one-on-one coaching guys, this is the first things we go through is, we do a strategy session where we look at what they’re going to concentrate on and at what time and in what sort of process going forward so that we can ensure that they have a really good time all the way through but absolutely pass everything and progress.
So what I’d say to you is, decide that you’re going to have a go at it. So if you are or you’re not, just make the decision and commit to that. That way then you’ve got your time to gather your resources and plan out how you’re going to strategically approach each stage of the process so that you’ve got time to, you know, become successful at the things that you aren’t successful at.
So just get the resources and take the steps one at a time on your way to becoming a successful applicant and a brand new fire fighter.
