Update for fire service recruitment in Australia and New Zealand
Hi guys! Brent here with a Q1 firefighter recruitment 2023 update just for you.
It’s been a while since my last update and I am happy to announce that it looks like fire service recruitment is returning back to normal in 2023. Hopefully, we’ll see stable roll outs of recruitment dates in the months ahead.
QFES firefighter recruitment QLD – 2023
News
Following last year, QFES are doing aptitude by test type in batches. The first segment being Mechanical exam followed by Core Abilities which is a combination of the other test types. If you are an Elite Member, don’t forget to jump on special online sessions to get all the help you need in preparation for the exam segment that’s coming. Other stages of recruitment for QFES will remain the same. They should still be short of the rumored 400 target headcount. This is great news for the applicants as this would definitely mean an intake this year!

QFES is expected to recruit on the last quarter of 2023. – Opened 5th October 2023

FRV is recruiting from 19 – 26 of April 2023. It opens and closes exactly at 12:00 noon. As usual, competition is fierce. It is now more important than ever to work on your preparations. For those of you who are preparing ahead particularly for the interview, you can check out the firefighter interview questions resource for some guidance. Be ready for anything.
NSW Fire and Rescue firefighter recruitment

Revelian has been bought out and rebranded to Criteria late 2021. However, FRNSW still retained the traditional Revelian test at least for the previous intake. This means, anyone preparing for application this year and the years to come might see a new test provider. Rest assured we will have our finger on the pulse and we’ll update you as soon as we know more.

Fire and Rescue NSW will be using Revelian.
I have prepared Revelian practice test information as well as some information around the work safety, work reliability and emotify test.
Plan your course of action wisely to make sure you get yourself in the best shape possible to deal with the competition. I believe the competition will be as fierce as ever in NSW this year.

I am happy to say that a lot of our members from the previous intake are reporting their success in the firefighter application journey which shows that the program is indeed helpful to those who have yet to start theirs.

DFES recruiting is happening now and will remain open until the end of October. Be sure not to miss out!
Air Services – ARFF firefighter recruitment 2023 dates

ARFF recruited April 2022. The rest of the recruitment stages seem to be the same as the ones before and is not expected to change anytime soon.
Aptitude test provider At this stage, the ARFF recruitment process looks to be staying the same with SHL as the test provider.
Recruitment outlook 2023
ARFF opened recruitment much earlier this year starting late last week until 11:55 PM on 9 April 2023. This is, however, great news! It means there is definitely a need to fill posts in Air Services as airports have opened following the long hiatus brought about by the pandemic.
SAMFS recruitment 2023 dates

SAMFS recruited in April 2022 after a very long dry spell
Aptitude test provider – The test provider is still Converge + SafeSelect so this means they will be staying with Cognify as their cognitive exam and SafeSelect as their personality test.

Recruitment outlook 2023
SAMFS is yet to announce the recruitment date for 2023.
The 2022 SAMFS recruitment team was very quiet about their intake plans for the previous year and surprised everyone when they just rolled out back in April. I won’t be too shocked if they do the same thing this year. Better start preparing now.
ACT Fire and Rescue recruitment 2023 dates

ACTFR application window has started and is open until 25 OCT 2023.
Aptitude test provider – ACT have retained Hudson psychometric test as their exam provider which was a bit of a shock for applicants. We have created Hudson tests ready to use in Membership.
Recruitment outlook
The recruitment start date announced is ongoing until 25 October 2023 so you still have some time to make sure you get yourself in the best shape possible to deal with the competition.
NT fire service recruitment dates

NT Fire and rescue last recruited in December 2021 and completed the whole intake around mid-2022. They stuck to the same recruitment process as the previous year and the big hurdle that knocked out the majority was once again the aptitude test.

NT Fire & Rescue are currently using OPRA Psychology Group, We have created practice material in the e-learning.

NZ Firefighter Recruitment 2023

FENZ up next and they are having 2 recruitment runs again this year! How cool is that?
FENZ is a really large organization and whilst they do not sponsor overseas migration, AU Citizens are welcome to apply if they want to have a crack at it.

The testing provider for FENZ remains to be SHL and the recruitment process still looks the same as the ones before.
Recruitment outlook 2023
The first run opened 15 Dec 2022 and will remain so until 10 January 2023. No official announcement yet as when the next intake will be.
Remember those that are the most prepared are the ones that get the job.
