Group Activity Assessment Highlights – Fire Services Australia

Group Activity Assessment Video Fundamentals – Applies Across All Services
It has been very busy the last couple of weeks for all of us due to recruitment reaching its peak. I’m sharing more highlights on VIC Group Assessment not only for this intake’s applicants but for future aspirants as well.
But before that, I’d like to send a special thanks to all our Members in Fire Recruitment Australia and our closed FB Group who have asked questions, helped their fellow applicants and shared their experiences. You all made it possible for all of us to learn together and be better applicants more suited to the challenging role of firefighters.
The tips below pertain to recent Group Activity Assessment Centre for FRV but the fundamentals and tips particularly in the videos are universal and fundamental to group activity assessment centre situations you will find.

To get you started, here’s a short outtake of part of a group assessment training sessions with Coach Leah and Coach Rebecca.
How Fire Recruitment Australia Prepares You for Group Assessments
1. Understand the Real Purpose of the Group Task
Most applicants mistakenly focus only on “sounding smart” during the group task. In reality, assessors watch how you behave in a team, not whether you take over the conversation.
At Fire Recruitment Australia, we help you understand what assessors are looking for: collaboration, leadership without dominance, time awareness, and the ability to support quieter team members.
2. Access to Realistic, Fire-Specific Simulations
Generic teamwork practice isn’t enough. Inside our Membership Program, we provide mock group assessments designed to reflect the exact types of activities used by Australian fire services, particularly FRV, QFES, and DFES.
You’ll face tasks based on real scenarios, such as incident response planning, time-sensitive decision-making, and communication under pressure, so you walk in on test day already familiar with the environment.
3. Elite Coaching with Proven Mentors
Fire Recruitment Australia works with professional coaches like Leah and Rebecca who specialise in firefighter group assessment prep. Through recorded training sessions and personalised feedback, you’ll learn how to:
- Recognise and correct poor group behaviours
- Respond to complex prompts clearly and effectively
- Demonstrate leadership through calm collaboration
These aren’t just theory-based sessions — they’re grounded in the experience of helping hundreds of applicants move into fire service roles.
4. Personalised Feedback Loops for Continuous Improvement
After each mock task or group coaching session, you’ll receive structured feedback to identify what went well and what needs improvement. This is where Fire Recruitment Australia’s expertise shines — we don’t just tell you what to say, we coach you on thinking and acting under pressure.
5. A Community That Builds Confidence
You won’t be training alone. Through our private coaching forums and Facebook group, you can connect with past and current candidates, share lessons, and get clarity on your challenges. Many of our most successful applicants — including those now in active service — credit this community for helping them prepare more thoroughly than they ever could.
Hope you found the tips plus the video really helpful. Should you have any questions about group activity assessments, feel free to reach out to us via email, FB Messenger or website LIVE chat!
Cheers,
Brent
